Some general FAQs about chiropractic care.
What can I expect from a visit to a Chiropractor?
You can expect to meet a Doctor of Chiropractic. During your visit, the Chiropractor will take a detailed history and perform an assessment to determine if there are any problems with your spine (or any associated joints). Your spine is unique and it is important to gather as much detail as possible to come up with an appropriate diagnosis. After the assessment, the doctor will provide you with a diagnosis and an explanation for the diagnosis. You will also receive a treatment plan based on your diagnosis.
Is Chiropractic Care Safe?
There is plenty of research showing that not only is chiropractic care safe, but it is very effective for a wide variety of issues, especially those pertaining to neck and back pain. Chiropractic care has also been shown to be effective at increasing flexibility and mobility of joints and improving the health of the nervous system.
What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?
A Chiropractic Adjustment is a complex process performed by a highly skilled Doctor of Chiropractic. The adjustment is where the chiropractor aims to “release” joints that have become restricted. Often you will hear a “pop” (called a cavitation) when the joint is released. This noise comes from compressed (synovial) fluid in the joints that are rapidly released. It is similar to the noise that is made when a suction cup is released from a surface.
How many Adjustments will I need?
The number of adjustments you need will be based on your diagnosis and your individual health. Some patients see improvements very quickly, while more complicated cases may take time to show improvement. Over time as your spine stabilizes, your treatment frequency decreases as you progress towards wellness care.
